Project Details
The project consists of a Concept Development Study intended to improve the Route 54 Bridge over Penny Pot Stream and extend its functional service life. Existing conditions include poor deck conditions and poor superstructure conditions. While the bridge continues to carry critical regional traffic and utilities, its current condition presents ongoing maintenance challenges and rideability concerns.
Project goals include implementing a cost-effective solution, improving safety, extending the service life of the structure and minimizing traffic disruptions during construction. To address these conditions, the Preferred Preliminary Alternative (PPA) is proposed as follows:
Precast Reinforced Three-Sided Ridge Frame
Full replacement of the bridge
One 12-foot travel lane in each direction
Two 11-foot-wide shoulders
Two 10-foot 5/8-inch-wide shared use paths
Shared Use Paths will be separated from the roadway with a 3-foot 6-inch-high barrier
A 3-foot 6-inch-high steel bridge pedestrian railing on either side of the bridge
The PPA addresses existing conditions by extending service life while maintaining traffic operations and minimizing construction impacts.
Concept Development: Anticipated Completion Early 2027
